Hey, Good News Everyone!
The nice people at Kissoft have given our Construction Contractors a special deal until the end of July 2006. How good is the deal? Well, you will have to send an email to find out but take it from me, it's worth while doing. It is a good deal.
Kissoft is a great programme that is certified to integrate with MYOB so you can now cut-down on double-doing. Believe me, its a good programme and it will save you heaps of time and frustration. Just think of those BAS statements!!! Any Estimating accounting package integrated and always up-to-date will have to be a considerable time saver for you.
As 55-60% of our members use the MYOB programme as their accounting package of choice, to have an estimating programme that integrates saves you a LOT of time.
Be kind to yourself and give yourself an end-of-financial-year present that you can claim the cost back immediately if you spend the purchase money this financial year :-))

A Balanced Lifestyle
Hi Everyone,
Well, it's all over but the dissecting but we certainly have some Socceroos to be really proud of, hey? They did us proud!
So, how much exercise do you do? I know...I know...after working so hard physically you probably just want to get home, do your quotes, write up your invoices...yeah, right!
Wouldn't you prefer to finish a job, get paid for it there and then and THEN go home? Much better idea, don't you think? Then you can go for that run, play with the kids, take the dog for a walk.....and know you are not financing your clients renovations or problems.
Anyway, for us Aussies we can now do that through MobileEFT-GetPaid, Anywhere, Anytime simply by using your Mobile phone which you have on you anyway.
To request an information/application kit just login to our www.constructingprofits.com website and go to the Resources page.
Now I have to do Pilates tonight because I did dancing classes last night. What type of dancing am I learning? Ummmmm....it's origins are in the middle east and 'shimmying and shaking' are much, much harder than you might think!
But it balances out my life and exercises me at the same time. And it's far more interesting than going to the Gym :-)
Take Care,
Jan-ConstructingProfits

Why so many construction contracting Businesses 'do it hard'
Hi Everyone,
Many building contractors start their own contracting business for one major client. This leads to all sorts of problems for them because they are usually excellent tradespeople but not always good business people and generally have no, or very little, marketing experience.
And as so often happens, they have a 'falling out' or that particular major client 'screws them' so badly they end up in all kinds of financial trouble.
They are usually so busy 'doing quotes' at the time many of the marketing courses offered through community business groups are run, that they have great difficulty picking up the business skills they need.
Because they are usually a family business, if they are reasonably well organized, it is the partner of the tradesperson who usually does the books. But as she most probably has a full-time job as well to help the family survive, she doesn't have the time either to attend these business classes. Chances are also high that they have a child or two as well and as we all know, kids need time and attention too.
So consequently, many of our construction contractors are "doing it hard".
That is why a site like www.constructingprofits.com is a bonus for this growing band of construction contractors. Here both contractor and wife can learn the marketing skills, in a time that suits them.
They need these skills to survive as a business and to help them to make better advertising decisions to grow their business and hopefully, save some very hard earned money.
Ideas have no borders. They can be transmitted from trade to trade, country to country.
It is my experience from working in the Industry, that Electricians can help Plumbers, Plumbers can help builders, builders can help landscapers and everyone can contribute to the well-being of the Industry as a whole. They just need a 'maestro'.
The end beneficiaries are the users of a contractors services.

Quiz: How Polite Are You?
Quiz: How Polite Are You?
Hi Everyone,
You are all probably aware by now that I have a high regard for courtesy. I think being polite and respectful of others around me is important. Thank Heavens I'm not alone. I think if our communities are to be pleasant for everyone to live in we have to always be mindful and caring of others.
If you want to check out your courtesy skills, try this Readers Digest courtesy quizz and then read the article. The bottom line says it all. Simply, it's contagious.
Or as the saying goes "Do unto others as you would have others do for you"
It makes for a healthy and happy life and a healthy business.

www.bizarebazaar.com
www.bizarebazaar.com: Bizare Bazaar is a shopping Mall for Choice!
Hi everyone,
Well, I hope you've all had a nice weekend and are all ready for a bonza week this week. I've had a very interesting weekend too. Believe it or not, I bought myself an emerald and diamond bracelet for .99 cents plus shipping and handling and insurance for AU$15:00. So, for AU$15.99 I now have a bracelet I really don't need but a bargain is a bargain and I'm never one to pass up on quality. How's that for a bargain! How did I get it so cheaply? Because the seller didn't bother to double check his selling details for typos! Because he misspelt "emeralds" it never got listed into the right category and I bought it for less than a song. My daughter's birthday is coming up in August so I got her something really nice for her birthday.
Do you hate shopping for presents for your wife/daughter/friend? Well, by planning a bit ahead and shopping on Ebay you can pick up all kinds of bargains too. And you know when their birthdays/anniversaries/mothers day/Christmas etc are coming up because they are dates that don't change. So here is a place to pick up something really nice for them and surprise them. You never know your luck ;-)
I have been shopping on ebay for years now but even I didn't know until a few weeks ago about the mispelling tool. It is located in small print at the top left hand side of www.bizarebazaar.com
But you can also buy BUILDING MATERIALS and all other bots 'n Sods here too. It is an amazing site if you take some time just to get to know it. It now has over 200,000,000 registered users and would be the fifth largest nation of people on earth if it was a physical entity. And two hundred million people can't be wrong. To get to the Building Materials section, log in to Ebay from Bizarebazaar and go to site map, scroll down until you find the Business section and then choose what you want from there. Too easy. Try it and surprise yourself.
"A penny saved is a penny earned" and as you have probably guessed by now, I want to save you blokes some money!
Today I'm going to be starting a regular contribution to Master Plumbers. So, if you are one of our plumbers, don't forget to read my item in the July edition and if you aren't already a member/subscriber to Master Plumbers regular newsletter...why not? You learn lots of good stuff there! And even if you aren't a plumber, why not join the newletter anyway. Why? Well, just so you know what's going on in the plumbing areas of a job site :-) It's always good 'to be in-the-know' :-)

Some Clients aren't perfect either!
Hi Everyone,
I've been hearing some pretty torrid tales this week so I decided to write a piece for general distribution through article ezines in the hope that many clients will read it BEFORE they hire a Contractor.
Here is the gist of it:
Stop Fighting with Your Contractor
If you have finally found a construction contractor who is able to do your renovating job for you, why fight with them?
Yes, none of them are perfect but there are some things you can do to help make the job run smoother, finish on time and on budget and with a whole lot less stress and angst.
I know this doesn’t sound like you, but you would be amazed at what some clients think their finally-found contractor should do on their behalf.
Here is a list of ten things you can do to help your contractor and yourself:
1. Stop looking over his work every day. There are a lot of things that need to get done which aren’t immediately evident on a job site. But if those things don’t get done on time, your job could be held up for days, in some cases of material or ‘out-of-trade’ contractor shortage, weeks. So let him spend the time liaising with colleagues or accurately measuring and ordering the required materials.
2. Hiring sub-contractors. If you don’t get a brickie, plumber, electrician etc on time to do their bit of the contract, then your job gets held up too. It is a bit like a domino effect, if someone ‘falls over’ in one section of the work chain, the rest of the work gets stuffed around too. This isn’t your contractors fault so stop ‘going at him’ over something that he has no control over. Obviously, if there is going to be a prolonged delay your contractor has other subbies he can let the work go to but no reasonable contractor worth his salt immediately calls on someone else to do the work previously ‘subbied’ to someone else. Your contractor knows when he needs to call on someone else to do your job so leave it up to your contractor to decide.
3. There is no need to call your contractor every third day to see when the work will be completed. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your new bathroom. Be patient.
4. If you are doing house renovations, things have to be ripped apart to make the improvements so there will be a mess. Realise this, make allowances (like moving great-grandmothers vase into a safe place) and move anything else that could be an inconvenience to your workmen - well out of their way.
5. So you want them to clean up as they go? No problem, but it does help a lot if you have a broom, dustpan and the rubbish bins available
6. Keep an eye on your kids. If workmen constantly have kids hanging around they are in the way. Accept the fact that your workmen are there to do your job, not answer every question young Johnny has about why something is getting done. Yes, most contractors do like kids…but not always underfoot.
7. When your contractor says he needs to see you, then he needs to see you. When you have made an appointment time, be on time. Yes, s/he is working for you but they are not your personal ‘servant’ for you to keep waiting indefinitely. Their time is money too, so be a responsible and considerate client and stop costing them money in ‘downtime’.
8. If you are to choose the materials yourself, eg: tiles, pavers, paint colours, and the contractor need them by a certain set date, then have the materials there ready for them to start work with them.
9. Accept the fact that we still get rain (well, in some places anyway) and when it’s pouring rain a lot of outside work can’t be done. Your contractor can’t do anything about this but it does hold up work. If not immediately for him, certainly for some (or one) of the subbies. You will be surprised how well the majority of the contractors reschedule their work load to accommodate this work inconvenience. Stop pushing him because there are many other factors that have to be taken into consideration.
10. Pay progress payments on time. There is no reason for you to think your contractors have to ‘bankroll’ your renovations. They are a construction contracting business, not a bank.
With a little bit of courtesy, common sense and respect by everyone, there really is no reason to fight with your construction contractor. They want to finish your job and get paid for it so they can move on to the next one. You want your perfect job and they want to do it for you, so by working together and not fighting you both achieve your goals.

Hi Everyone,
This is a very interesting article on why so many small-medium sized businesses fail. The statistics are pretty grim so I thought you should all be aware of them. Because they are pretty grim doesn't mean they will or can happen to you. But you do need to aware of the warning signs and do something about them.
If anyone is interested in looking at what opportunities are available on the Internet, dropship wholesaling is just another option. I'm not into it simply because I already have enough on my plate! You blokes keep me pretty busy! I have another teleconference this morning for another product I found yesterday from a Brisbane firm who have another estimating programme that looks really good and it integrates with the MYOB accounting package that so many of you use.
So, as Walt Disney used to say "Stay Tuned"!

Money Making Opportunities
Hi Everyone,
I hope you all enjoyed the Socceroos win last night! I was in bed listening to it on the radio but fell asleep 3/4 of the way through! You know what the Toyota Ad says "@87735" But it was nice to hear on the news that they did pull through. They certainly deserved to win!
I found this free ebook in my searching this morning. If anyone is interestd in starting up a passive income via the Internet, it gives some common-sense approaches to opportunities and well worth downloading. It's a 'freebie' so enjoy. The download button is located on the right hand side.
I hope you have all had an opportunity to check out the latest freemiums. I wrote a manual and instead of selling it, I decided to put it up chapter-by-chapter for you all to read. I think it is information that you all could find very useful to help to grow your contractiong businesses.
Any questions please feel free to contact me at the email address below. I really like to hear from you and I always answer all emails personally.

Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all having a good week and aren't scrambling to meet the wages bill this week! Now THAT is a stressful way to run a business.
I enjoy reading Plumbviews from the Master Plumbers Association. I didn't know this! Did you? Apart from being a very informative article it was written in such a great story-telling way. I bet Dan Holohan would be a great person to share a beer or three with. He has a great way of telling a story. And that is the oldest way of passing on knowledge.
Anyway, enjoy this article and have a great weekend.

Bunnings are still Growing
Bunnings - Bunnings Trade :: Latest News
He Everyone,
There's no doubt about it, the world seems to be shrinking. I just thought some of you may have found this an interesting article to show that Bunnings are still growing. They are without doubt the biggest supplier to the Building Industry in Australia. I have been from one end of this country to the other, east to west and north to south and I have always been able to find a friendly Bunnings store.
What I like about going to a Bunnings store is the fact I can always find someone in there to help me. Being "handyman challenged" they have stopped me making some pretty gruesome mistakes!
I've put together some pretty wobbly tables but at least the service you get from a Bunnings store isn't too wobbly!

Penny Pour Credit Repair - Credit Repair Information
Penny Pour Credit Repair - Credit Repair Information
Hi again evryone,
CREDIT REPAIR INFORMATION
In today’s world if you don’t have a credit card you have a lot of difficulty navigating through life in so many things we with credit cards just take for granted.
Most decent hotels these days won’t accept a booking unless you give them your credit card details first. Car hire businesses won’t let you hire a car without a credit card. Then there are all the other things that run off a credit card.
The good news today is that there are now financial institutions that will issue a debit/credit card, like Visa.
These debit/credit cards give you all the same benefits but you are only using your own money, no-one else’s. If, over time, you prove yourself again as a trustworthy credit recipient, these financial institutions will issue you with an overdraft facility which acts the same way as credit through a ‘normal’ financial institution.
And there is another good side to this; you usually manage to get the credit at a cheaper price than what you have to pay a ‘normal’ credit card organization. Bank interest rates are lower than credit card interest rates.
No matter which way you decide to go, interest is always payable when you borrow money. Lending money is a business.
What do you do if you don’t have a credit card and you have a bad credit history?
Don’t despair because you can do something about it.
In fact, there are many things you can do and if you go to www.pennypour.com you can read up on all the options available to you.
Once you have repaired and restored your financial reputation again I think you will find life so much more enjoyable.
And definitely less stressful!

Welcome to the Official Master Plumbers of Australia
Hi Everyone,
I hope you have all had a nice weekend and that the 'right' football team won :-)) I've had an interesting weekend too catching up and learning all about the new phenonemum to hit the Internet called "Tag & Ping" but I'll let you know more about that in later blogs after I've had more time to test it out.
Below is an Email I received from one of my favourite people this morning:
Dear Jan,
A few days ago you finished reading my "Nine Great Lies of Sales & Marketing" course.
I should add a tenth lie to the list.
Lie #10 is:
"Build a superior product, offer a superior service, and provide elegant solution to difficult problems, and you will be successful."
NOT true.
Below is an email from a guy named Mitch Carr, which was forwarded to me:
"It is a shame that the best talent, the groundbreaking work, the technical superiority is in the field that is suffering the most with the highest cutbacks, the slimmest of margins and lowest of salaries.
"Perhaps it is because (technology) is not a glamorous industry.
We don't make the Internet faster, or the sub-woofer louder.
We make machines work. We make turkey bags from 11 layers of plastic film so people don't get sick from spoiled food. We make bolts stronger so airplane engines don't fall off. We make drugs that cure diseases. We make the cheapest gasoline in the world.
And yet we earn some of the lowest salaries.
"Consumers drive prices down, which drives costs down, which drive overhead down, which drive salaries and benefits down.
To me, joblessness means that some of our smartest and most talented people are sitting at home watching soap operas.
I know talented project managers who are now selling real estate.
My neighbor used to build sophisticated head-end servers - and he is now selling custom doors at Home Depot."
This guy hit the nail on the head. There are all kinds of highly educated, talented people who are selling custom doors at Home Depot. It's not what they want to do, it's not what they should be doing - so why are so many talented people having such a hard time?
Here's why:
What you can do and how good you are does not matter.
What matters is how well you COMMUNICATE what you do and how good you are.
That is the difference.
Every year, tens of thousands of people invent, innovate and create brilliant products, terrific solutions to truly perplexing problems - only to find out that it's darn hard to raise money for their new ventures, and even harder to get customers to listen.
Most of the time those new products and services die on the slag heap of great ideas that never saw the light of day.
You don't want that to happen to your great idea.
So here's how to make sure it doesn't:
Make sure that marketing, sales, advertising and PR is the foremost priority in your new venture.
Even if you don't like Microsoft (they're not my favorite company either), you MUST learn this lesson from them: They don't have the best software by any stretch of the imagination, but they do have the best sales strategy. And in business, it's the sales strategy that wins, not the superior technology.
So if you're waking up every morning thinking about the minute details of your cool product or service, please stop and re-calibrate. Understand this:
1) Having a superior product is not necessarily an advantage, and can even be a DISadvantage - because it can distract you from the real objective, which is to GET and KEEP customers.
2) The product you develop is rarely the product your customers want to buy. That's OK as long as you're listening and flexible. But if you've already spent all your money perfecting the product, then you won't have any left to respond to customer feedback.
3) The product or service itself is, at most, maybe 25% of the equation. Advertising, PR strategies, and real-world market testing (as opposed to "market research", which is usually just "opinion research") --- all of these things are MORE important than the product.
4) Innovate, Don't Invent -- It's much easier to go into an existing market and solve an existing problem with a slightly improved, more interesting product (innovation) than to create a product from scratch that solves a problem people don't realize they have. That's goes along with my principle of "enter the conversation inside the customer's head."
Back to selling custom doors at Home Depot -- nobody needs to suffer this fate. But don't underestimate the
challenge: If you have superior talent, then the best investment you can make is in communicating that talent to the world -- clearly, effectively, and without fail.

Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone has had a good week and made lots of money with few (preferably none!) Call backs. It's those call-backs that cost you dearly. Not only timewise but "kudos" wise as well.
And you know what? Not all those call-backs can be your own fault...or the fault of your employee/contractor. Some of them are simply because the client wants time to pay their bill. We all know that, though, don't we? So what can we do about these type of people? Legally, I mean :-)
Well, we could get them to pay their bill by credit card at job completion. How? By using MobileEFT GetPaid. This works by using your mobile phone to get authorisation from the card provider and getting the client's signature on the payment slip. This means you get paid instantly, no more invoicing and no more waiting for someone to get around to doing their accounts to pay you. It also means you aren't financing your client. You have deprived them of the chance to use YOUR money for their job.
Anyway, I'm sure you will make up your own mind. I'm just here to offer you options.
Speaking of which...I came across this cool little website the other day and it has been primed with all the things someone will need if they are going to earn a passive income from the Internet. It is already 'pre-made' with affiliate links/eBay/Adsense & Clickbank Products. For anyone wanting to start out 'easy' its a good place to start from.
Here's a thought for you all today. How can I contact all the people I have given a quote to in the past 6 weeks to make sure they got what they needed or if there is anything I can do to help them? Surprise them and yourself by the positive reaction you will get and how they will remember you for their future needs.
Have a nice weekend everyone and may the right football team win! :-)
